Biography

From the remote areas of Gokwe, rich in Shangwe culture and traditional practices where mbira is considered an instrument for all occasions be it sombre or dance The Lioness ( traditional musician) was born and bred.

Born Florence Nyamazana also known as The Lioness recorded her first eight-track album called Tisadzokere Shure. To date, she has‚ her (2/3/4th?) album Matama Matsvene‚ with the track Murudo being dominant. Leading an eight-piece band, The Lioness was recently nominated in the category for the Best Traditional/Chinyakare category at the ZIMA 2021 awards. In the same year she took home the Best Female Mbira musician at the Simuka Awards.

She shared the stage with all Zimbabwean mbira gurus at full moon mbira festival (Mukuvisi woodlands, Dare remagwenyambira grand festival (Pakare Paye arts center), Jah Prayzah (Pick n save Mutare) and many established and upcoming artists.
She has performed on events like Zimbabwe national galas, Dr Nero memorial gala, Divas in Action first gala (National Gallery), Divas in Action 2021 launch unplugged, Divas in Action Mashwede village. She also does live shows for public and corporate events (also traditionally gatherings).
